Our December 2007 training session is scheduled friday the 7th. It actually is a double event. Along with our regular rally training session event we will hold the first Rally School session of The Automobile Club of Egypt.
Badr & Mido have setup a fast and tricky course of about 30 kilometers crossing 3 dunes in the Kattaniya and Lubaytah Dune ranges. Some crossings are tricky and some are mild but always interesting. Come watch the race cars & bikes tough it out in the dunes :).
P. S.: As always we need volunteers to man the check points. Email me at ..@...........com if interested.
The Automobile club of Egypt with the help of Egyptian Rally Teams will start the first Egyptian Rally school in order to guide interested individuals about this sport and increase their awareness with emphasis on safety and environment as well as performance and technique.
We've also set up a very interesting track for the participants of the Rally school taking them through the same dune fields that the rally drivers will train in but of course the dune crossings will be adjusted to the level of the participants and stock cars and there will be no time tracking. If you participate, you will be accompanied by a professional or experienced driver who will take you step by step through the course instructing you where needed, making sure that you drive safely and help you if you get stuck.
Keep the tires side down

The training course is about 30 km long. The start / finish way point is 500 meters from the bivouac. The terrain is fast and flat but bumpy. Some of the dunes crossings are difficult and tricky but doable so be extra careful.
We will go through 3 dunes, the Kattaniya dune and the two legs of the Lubaytah dune. From the starting point we'll head to the Kattaneya dune across the valley and to the first crossing where the ascent is very easy but soft and the descent is very very tricky !!!. We're talking Twisty, Soft, Sliding & Steep Slope. If you want to watch the action here and take pictures stand on the east side.
After a short stretch on the east side we'll cross Kattaniya back to the valley and head to Lybaytah dune to cross both its legs. The first crossing is a bit difficult, the second is easy but with lots of soft sand, be sure to be on the right side of the posts (piquet) here. We'll then run a short stretch on soft sand on the other side of the dunes before crossing back and landing between the two legs of the Lubaytah dune for another short and scenic stretch in soft sand. Lastly we'll cross the east leg of the Lubaytah dune one last time and into the valley to the finish line next to the bivouac.
A GPS is a must. Way points will be given right before the race and there's only a few of them so entering them won't take long. Due to popular demand I'll provide the points in DD°MM.MMM' format :).
GPS way points on their own are not enough as you'll need to know what to expect and what to do when you reach each way point. This is paramount at high speed so a one page road book will be supplied and it's the role of the navigator to guide the pilot to tell him what to expect and what to do on the course. Ahmed Badr will be providing instructions on how to read and use the road book during the briefing before the training session.
You'll find wood posts (piquet) marking important turns and crossing points. The posts are white with a florescent pink top. Can't get much more visible than that but still the desert is wide and the sun is shining. Posts are placed throughout the course to indicate the way and mark important points.

The Rally school will feature a specially designed track crossing the same dunes fields that the rally drives will cross but minus the very difficult and very trikcy crossings. That doesn't mean that it's boring, on the contrary it's very exciting, its just that it's designed for stock cars rather than full blown racing cars. Don't worry if you don't have a roll bar, you won't be timed as you'll be doing the course at a slow pace.
If you participate you will be taken around the course by a professional or experienced driver who will show you the way, take you slowly over every crossing and instruct you where needed.
The track will go through 3 dunes, the Kattaniya dune and the two legs of the Lubaytah dune. From the starting point we'll head to the Kattaneya dune across the valley and to the first crossing where the ascent is very easy but soft and the descent is into a small sandy vally. After a short stretch on the east side we'll cross Kattaniya over 2 dunes back to the valley and head to Lybaytah dune to cross both its legs. The first leg's crossing is easy but will land you in a soft area so keep your momentum in order not to get stuck. The second leg crossing is easy but with lots of soft sand, be sure to be on the right side of the posts here.
In short the track is fun and will expose you to a variety of easy to moderate dune crossings. There will be marshals guiding you through the whole thing and you won't have to do anything that you're not comfortable with.
We will be at these points at these times. Feel free to join us anywhere anytime.
