Currently there are two international cross country races that take place in the magnificent Egyptian deserts:
The Pyramids Rally:
The Pyramids Rally is organized by the legendary Fenouil. The last edition of the race took place in the western desert over a period of nine days (28 April - 6 May 2007) and covered the distance of 2500 km.
Egyptian teams won the first two places this year. In the first place came the Egyptian team of Abdel-Hamid Abu-Youssef (pilot) and Ahmed Badr (copilot) in a Toyota Land Cruiser. In second place came Azzam El-Farouki (Pilot) and Samia Allouba (copilot) in a Jeep Cherokee. Other Egyptian racers who participated in that rally and finished in various places include Mohannad Abussuud, Adham Mobarak and Sayed Zein-Eldin. All Egyptian participants finished the race.
The Pharaons Rally
The Pharaons Rally is organized by the legendary Jacky Icks. The last Edition of the race took place in the western desert over a period of seven days (3 - 9 October 2006) and covered the distance of 3500 km.
Three Egyptian teams entered the rally but only one team finished the rally. Team Abdel-Hamid Abu-Yousef (pilot) and Ramsis Noshi (copilot) took 5th place in their Diesel category. Azzam El-Farouki was doing well but had to retire from the race after his jeep flipped over. Gary Kehyayan also entered the race but was disqualified after only a few days due to time penalties.
Training Sessions
Organized by Ahmed Badr, Training Sessions are not races but rather short courses designed to prepare for the rallies. They're also designed for spectators enjoyment, something that's difficult to do with the big rallies. We'll be having several of those each year. Although short in length, they pack a punch and include some difficult obstacles to overcome to test man and machine. Join our mailing list to be notified about these Training Sessions.
